What is Multi Desktop?
Multi Desktop is a hip software tool that helps you  to run more programs and open more windows without getting the screen too crowded. When a lot of windows are opened in the current desktop and you have not work space you switch to another desktop, which appears blank - and continue working in that one.

How does it work?
You can quickly switch to a new desktop by clicking the left mouse button on Multi Desktop's monitor icon in the system tray. Also ,  you can  use hot key to switch the desktop. CTRL+F1  switch to the first desktop. CTRL+F2  switch to the second desktop . CTRL+F3  switch to the third desktop  . CTRL+F4  switch to the fourth desktop. CTRL+TAB  switch to each desktop by order. When you switch desktops you will notice that all of the programs on the current desktop disappear and the new desktop's programs appear. You will also notice that Multi Desktop's icon now displays the number of the new desktop. If you choose to run a program on the new virtual desktop, Multi Desktop will automatically associate it with that desktop and activate it each time you switch to it again. As you switch around to each new desktop, you will see the applications that you have started while that desktop was selected.

What can I do with it?
If you had even used the UNIX operation system , you will impressed the Multi Desktop of Linux (unix), now It also can use in windows95/98/2000/NT/XP .

How to Running Multi Desktop?

  • Starting Multi Desktop
To install Multi Desktop, copy its three program files (MultiDesk.exe, and  MultiDesk.hlp) to a subdirectory on your hard disk, and create a shortcut to multidesk.exe. If you would like it to start automatically each time you launch Windows, then place the shortcut in your Startup group. To launch MultiDesk manually, double click its shortcut. When you run MultiDesk its icon will appear in the system tray area on the right (or bottom) area of the taskbar. The MultiDesk icon consists of a monitor that displays the number of your current virtual desktop.

  • Exiting Multi Desktop
If you decide that you no longer want to run Multi Desktop, you can close it by choosing the "Exit" option on its context menu. This will close Multi Desktop and move the running applications on each of the virtual desktops to the normal Windows desktop. It will also set the Windows wallpaper to the wallpaper selected in the first desktop.

What makes "Arranging Desktop" so cool?
This arrange screen allows you to move applications from one desktop to another and to indicate that an application should be visible on all desktops.

  • Move a window !
Suppose that you are running WordPad on desktop number one and Paintbrush on desktop number two, then you decide that you would like to have them both on the same desktop. You could accomplish this by closing one of the applications and starting it on the appropriate desktop or you could let Multi Desktop do the work for you.

To run WordPad on desk number two, all you need to do is click the "Desk 1" tab on the Arrange screen and select WordPad in the list of running applications (its entry changes to a highlighted color when it is selected). Next, hold the left mouse button down and drag the selected item up to the tab of the desk to which you would like to move it (in our example the "Desk 2" tab). As you move the mouse, its cursor changes to a rectangular shape when you are over a valid desk tab or a circle with a slash through it when you are not over a valid desk tab. Once you have positioned the cursor over the desk's tab where you want to move the program just release the left mouse button and the application will automatically move to the new desk. To verify that the move was successful, click on the tab of the new desk (desk two in our example) and locate the application in the list of running applications.

  • Keeping A Window On All Desktops
Multi Desktop also allows you to keep specified applications visible on every desktop by using the "Keep on all desks" checkbox on the Arrange screen. Checking this button for a selected application in the list will cause that application to be visible on every desktop. Once you select this option for an application, its list icon will have a green checkmark on it and the application will show up in the running application list for each desktop. If you decide later that you no longer want this program to be visible on every desktop, then you can select it again in the list and click the checkbox again. This time the check will disappear and the program's icon in the list will no longer have the green checkmark on it. The application will disappear from all of the virtual desktops except for the one that is currently active. When you have finished using the Arrange screen, you can close it by pressing the "Close" button.

  • Setting the Active Desktop
Another useful feature of the Arrange screen is the "Set Active" button. By using this button, you can automatically switch to the virtual desktop whose tab is currently selected. This has the same effect as using the context menu to directly jump to a new desktop. It immediately makes the selected desktop active and displays its running applications. It is a convenient way to view different desktops while you are arranging windows.

Does Multi Desktop allow you have unique Desktop Wallpaper and Color?
Multi Desktop allows you to have unique desktop wallpaper for each desktop. To use this feature, change the desktop wallpaper by using the normal Windows Control Panel Display/Appearance option. Then switch to the second desktop and do the same, this time choosing a different wallpaper. When you switch between these desktops, Multi Desktop displays the desktop wallpaper that you chose for each desktop. The program saves this information in the Registry, and the wallpapers are automatically restored the next time you run Multi Desktop

What is the system requirement?
You will need a Pentium 100 PC or higher, 16MB RAM or more. The operating system should be Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, or Windows ME.

Comman Problems?

There are a few things to keep in mind when using MultiDesk. Some Windows system utilities may produce unexpected behaviors. For example, if you display the Display/Properties screen in the Windows Control Panel, then switch to another desktop and try to do the same thing, the Display/Properties screen will not appear. This is because the Display/Properties screen is configured so that you can only display it one time, and it is currently running on the previous desktop. You may run across other applications that exhibit this behavior. If nothing seems to happen when you try to start a program, check to see if it
already running on another desktop.

Another thing to keep in mind is that programs that lock up may affect MultiDesk
ability to change desktops. This is because a locked-up program cannot process the messages that are sent to it. If you use a program that is prone to frequent lock-ups, use the "Keep on all desks" option of the Arrange screen to keep the offending application visible at all times. That way, if the program locks up, you be able to terminate it with the Windows Task Manager
